WOOD THRUSH BOOKS -- ALASKA NARRATIVE |

Back Cover Blurb:
What begins as a wilderness dream, quickly becomes a gut-wrenching challenge to the author´s most cherished beliefs when the bush plane leaves and he´s left alone in a remote corner of Southeast Alaska to fend for himself. This taut narrative, ten years in the making, recounts McLaughlin´s two-week sojourn in a harsh yet beautiful place, where bears, eagles and the wilderness itself teach a thing or two.Excerpt from the Book:
A raven croaks loudly, unseen in the thick mist hanging over the forest. Then all is silent, except for the steady drip of water falling through alder leaves. Water pours from the brim of my hat, rolls off my saturated rain suit, trickles from the holster at my side. Silence, deep silence - enough to disarm me. I consider what lies ahead. Oh sure, I can get down this slope, one way or another, but then what? Will I just keep going deeper and deeper into the wild until something goes wrong? A twist of the ankle or a fractured leg, then I´m down. I could make a crutch easy enough, but couldn´t negotiate this dense bush with one. No radio, no planes overhead, no way out and a pack full of food to attract every hungry mouth for miles around - what's wrong with this picture?About the Author:
