WTB catalog blurb:

Campfire Philosophy has been compiled with an eye towards a better understanding of the wild and our relationship to it. The reflections, feelings and encounters presented here, selected by the author from fifteen years of field journals, trace the steady development of a somewhat quirky worldview. Those who value specualtive thought about nature as much as the natural world itself will derive both pleasure and insight from these fragments.
Excerpts from the chapbook:
I took a dip in the brook, then put on some nice clean clothes -- what a concept! Feel almost civilized again. But there was a split second there, between the first dip in the water and the second, when I felt completely wild.

Waterthrush serenading me at dawn -- the same bird I heard last night, misnamed because I wasn´t fully here yet. So it goes. You can get into the woods in a minute, but it takes a day for the woods to get into you.

Campfire philosophy: thoughts that can withstand the unblinking gaze of the flame. This is no time for abstraction. Keep it real, very real.

Wilderness Areas are refuges for our wilder selves. When they no longer exist, we will cease to be fully human.

The reeds bend without hesitation to the steady southwest breeze. Such is the relationship between nature and God . . . making it impossible, at times, to tell the difference between the two.
