A sample poem, "Trout Lily:"

On an alpine pond
ice still lingers,
naked branches clatter
in the raw wind and
patches of snow cling
to an angry landscape.

In this unlikely place
it shines --
an outburst of yellow
gently drooping petals
and mottled leaves unfurled
from bleached forest duff.

Here we go again.
Backcountry pollen
and green joy
just when it seemed
impossible.
